East London maternity photographer
This maternity photoshoot took place on one of those proper London summer days - hot, bright, and buzzing with life. I met Tolga and Katja near Tower Bridge, we wandered towards Shad Thames and then over the bridge and through St Katharine Docks, and took things slowly, letting the city and the light do their thing. It was relaxed, unhurried, and exactly how I love maternity sessions to feel.
Before we even started, my client admitted something I hear more often than you might think: she wasn’t feeling very confident. Her body had changed quickly, most of her clothes didn’t feel right anymore, and getting dressed that morning had been harder than expected. Pregnancy can be magical but it can also be vulnerable, emotional, and full of moments where you don’t quite recognise yourself in the mirror.
At the very last minute, she decided to wear a light blue fitted dress layered over a simple white t-shirt. It was an easy choice, almost an afterthought. But honestly? It was perfect. The dress hugged her growing belly beautifully, the colour popped against the summer light, and she looked calm, elegant, and completely herself.
As we walked through St Katharine Docks, stopping where the light felt soft and the background felt right, something lovely happened. A woman passing by slowed down, looked at my client, and said - without hesitation - that she looked absolutely stunning. She told her the dress was gorgeous and that she wished she’d looked that good when she was pregnant herself.
You could see the shift instantly. My client’s shoulders relaxed, her smile widened, and her whole energy changed. She was glowing - not just because she was pregnant, but because someone had seen her in a way she hadn’t quite seen herself yet.
That moment stayed with me.
So often, we wait. We wait until we feel confident enough. Until we lose weight. Until our hair feels right. Until we feel “ready.” But sometimes confidence doesn’t arrive first - sometimes it follows. And sometimes, we need to be reminded that the way we see ourselves isn’t always the way the world sees us.
This is something I think about a lot during London maternity photoshoots, especially in iconic areas like Tower Bridge. You don’t need to be perfectly styled or bursting with confidence to deserve to be photographed. You just need to show up as you are. The rest can unfold naturally.
I love photographing maternity sessions in East London and around the city because every walk, every pause, every little interaction tells a story. These aren’t just photos of a bump - they’re a record of a chapter in your life that’s fleeting, emotional, and deeply meaningful.
If you’ve been thinking about booking a maternity photoshoot in London but keep putting it off because you don’t feel quite ready yet, this is your gentle reminder: you don’t have to wait. Sometimes the confidence comes after - and sometimes, it comes from seeing yourself through someone else’s eyes.
If this story resonates with you and you’d like to chat about planning a relaxed, meaningful maternity session around Tower Bridge, St Katharine Docks, or elsewhere in East London, I’d love to hear from you.
