Pregnancy photoshoot Tower Bridge

If you're on the fence about booking a maternity session, you're not alone. Many of the couples I work with hesitate at first. Life is busy, you're tired, your body feels different, and there's a long list of other things to prepare before the baby arrives. It's easy to think, "Maybe I don't really need maternity photos." But here's the statement I hear from my clients time and time again: "I'm so glad we did this. I would have regretted not having these memories.". Here I'm going to tell you why I truly believe that maternity photos are worth the investment.

Busyness and tiredness aside, there is another reason why women wonder if it's worth booking a pregnancy photoshoot. I've met many couples who had troubles conceiving a baby, sustaining a pregnancy or suffering a loss (or multiple losses). They are openly very cautious about having maternity photos taken in fear of "jinxing it".

As part of our pre-session consultation we talk about these fears and concerns because I understand that the pregnancy they are thinking about capturing can feel complex. There is the grief attached to the previous loss(es), fear of losing this baby, but at the same time there is a willingness to focus on the positives and THIS rainbow baby they are expecting. Often times they want the pregnancy to be "done and dusted" so they get to hold their long-awaited baby in their arms.

I say this often but I feel incredibly honoured and humbled when I get chosen to photograph a pregnancy. For me it's not "just a job" where I click the camera and take pretty pictures. The privilege I feel from hearing the stories from my clients - your stories - never, ever, gets taken for granted. When I hear about your fertility journey or how long it's taken you to get to this stage, to this pregnancy, I KNOW how much these maternity photos will mean to you. They will be worth so much. They aren't just "snaps".

They hold so much emotion.

The longing.

The waiting.

The wishing.

The disbelief your body has managed to create something so magical from scratch.

So if you think “No, I don't think maternity photos are worth it", consider what these photos could mean for the baby you're carrying. Think of them as a visual reminder of the miracle this baby is.

A reminder of the long and winded journey to get HERE.

A time capsule for the baby you’re carrying.

If you're thinking about it, that's your heart telling you it matters.

Listen to your heart.
